The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was established on 25 March, 1839. In The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce 1839 – 2004 a Historical Review, after referring to the factors that led to the formation of the Chambers in South Asia, South East Asia and East Asia, it is stated that the decisive nudge to establish a Chamber of Commerce in Ceylon came from Governor Stewart Mackenzie who was keenly interested in promoting Agriculture and Trade. As of today, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce functions as a Confederation of Trade Associations, Regional and Sectoral Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bilateral Business Councils and Employer Organisations in Sri Lanka.
